P&T Luxembourg readies September launch for LuxFibre FTTH Internet access
P&T Luxembourg says that it plans to begin offering high-speed Internet access over a fiber to the home (FTTH) network this September. The service, to be called LuxFibre, will offer symmetrical data rates of up to 100 Mbps. The Grand Duchy’s major carrier says it has the architecture in place to offer 30-Mbps service to approximately 85% of Luxembourg households, while approximately 25% could receive 100 Mbps. The new service is in line with a government plan to enable access to 100-Mbps to all Luxembourg households by 2015. P&T Luxembourg says it will spend half a billion euros to fiber the entire duchy. The government’s plan includes open access to P&T Luxembourg’s network. The carrier says that other service providers may either lease “products” on a wholesale basis or use the network to develop their own services. In addition to Internet access, P&T Luxembourg also plans to offer HDTV and video on demand.“The commercial launch of Ultra High Speed is the fruit of many years' work, painstaking planning, and considerable investment on the part of the P&T teams,” declared Jean-Marie Spaus, assistant managing director of the Telecommunications Department. “The future is fiber optics. In today's world, the performance of infrastructures and telecommunications is undoubtedly a decisive factor in determining the attractivity [sic] of Luxembourg and the competitiveness of all its companies and clients. Luxembourg clients are at the heart of a social and service network. We offer them the best networks at competitive rates. It's a great leap forward for the country and we are very pleased that P&T Luxembourg is able to contribute.”The carrier plans to announce prices and provide details of service availability at the time of the commercial launch.

Sigma Systems deploys its Telco Services Accelerator at Bell Aliant for FTTH network
Sigma Systems, a provider of IP service fulfillment products, says that it has installed its Telco Services Accelerator at Bell Aliant. The Canadian service provider will use the Telco Services Accelerator to support residential service fulfillment of the operator's fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network.Sigma Systems’ partner GENBAND assisted in the deployment.Bell Aliant’s FibreOP FTTH project, one of the first all-IP deployments in North America, provides broadband services to areas of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, and Labrador. The FTTH project is on track to pass 600,000 homes and businesses by the end of 2012.Sigma Systems says that its Service Management Platform (SMP) enables Bell Aliant to reduce its operational silos, which assists with the delivery of residential triple-play bundles from a single OSS service fulfillment system.Sigma Systems' SMP delivers the ability for operators to go to market faster, says Sigma Systems, as well as introduce new service bundles and scale their IT operations in line with consumer up-take. Bell Aliant also recently rolled out service fulfillment for hosted commercial VoIP services, and deployed Sigma Systems' Device Provisioning Manager (DPM) to organize and provision SIP/IP phones for business users. In addition, Sigma Systems asserts its combined offering provides Bell Aliant with other benefits, including:Built-in support for Alcatel-Lucent ONTs, GENBAND softswitches and Microsoft Mediaroom for IPTV.Service order-to-activation processes, with integration to Bell Aliant's CRM and billing system.Compliance with the TM Forum's certification for Order Management API and Web Services in a next-generation OSS (NGOSS) framework, enabling faster time to market through standards-based OSS to BSS interoperability.Reduces the complexity of provisioning and managing multiple types of SIP and IP phones for future business VoIP services .

Broadband stimulus winner North Alabama Electric Cooperative deploys ADTRAN equipment for FTTH, smart grid deployment
ADTRAN, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN) says that North Alabama Electric Cooperative has selected ADTRAN’s flagship product, the Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation Platform (MSAP), as well as Total Access 300 Series ONTs Full suite of NetVanta routers and switches for a project that will combine fiber to the home (FTTH) with smart grid capabilities. The utility cooperative will leverage the Total Access 5000 platform’s GPON and Active Ethernet FTTH capabilities to deliver broadband services to unserved and underserved rural communities. The deployment also will enable the electric utility’s subscribers to move from time-of-day rate models to demand response rate models, and energy consumption can be monitored and adjusted in real time, asserts ADTRAN.The fiber infrastructure will also allow North Alabama to better communicate with the Tennessee Valley Authority, says ADTRAN and support near real-time meter readings that will enable demand response for power generation.North Alabama selected the Total Access 5000 because it provides the flexibility and scalability to configure and provision advanced triple-play services from a single platform, claims ADTRAN.Said Bruce Purdy, general manager, North Alabama Electric Cooperative, “The Total Access 5000 combined with ADTRAN’s broadband portfolio has allowed us to become a model in the industry. Cooperatives from throughout the country are calling us for details of our deployments and asking to tour our facilities. They want to replicate the success we have experienced by offering entirely new, cutting-edge, revenue-generating services to existing electric customers.”
